Gardenfolk privacy policy
Last updated: 26 August 2026
Overview
Gardenfolk is designed to keep the core of your plant-care collection on your iPhone.
Gardenfolk does not require an account, does not contain advertising and does not use your information for cross-app tracking.
Plant and care data
Information about your Gardenfolk residents is stored locally on your device. This may include plant names, species, rooms, check-in rhythms, care history, check-in dates, watering dates and other information you enter or record about your plants.
Gardenfolk does not upload your plant collection to a Gardenfolk account or cloud-sync service.
You can permanently erase Gardenfolk's locally stored resident and care data from within the app using Erase Gardenfolk Data.
Notifications
If you enable check-in notifications, Gardenfolk asks iOS for notification permission and schedules local notifications on your device.
Notification permission can be changed at any time through iOS Settings.
AI Botanist
AI Botanist is an optional feature and is clearly identified inside Gardenfolk as AI-generated guidance.
When you choose to ask AI Botanist, Gardenfolk sends the resident's plant species and current check-in interval to the Gardenfolk backend so that plant-care guidance can be generated.
Gardenfolk does not send the resident's name, room, care history, Gardenfolk plant identifier or your contact information as part of an AI Botanist request.
The Gardenfolk backend sends the information required for the AI request to Groq, the AI inference provider used by Gardenfolk.
Gardenfolk does not maintain a user account or user database containing AI Botanist conversations, and the Gardenfolk backend does not intentionally persist AI Botanist request or response content as part of your plant collection.
As with normal internet requests, technical network information such as an IP address may be processed by the infrastructure involved in delivering the service.
AI provider data handling
Groq states that customer inputs and outputs for inference requests are not retained by default.
Groq states that inputs and outputs may be temporarily retained in limited circumstances for service reliability or abuse investigation. Groq also retains service usage metadata, which it states does not contain customer inputs or outputs.
For current information about Groq's handling of inference data, see Groq's data documentation .
Horticultural sources and external links
AI Botanist guidance may include a link to the horticultural source used for the recommendation.
Opening an external source leaves Gardenfolk and opens the relevant website. External websites have their own terms and privacy practices.
Analytics, advertising and tracking
Gardenfolk does not include advertising, advertising identifiers or cross-app tracking.
Gardenfolk does not currently use a third-party analytics service in the app.
Support
If you contact Gardenfolk support by email, the information you choose to include in that message is received and used to respond to your request.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if Gardenfolk's features, service providers or data-handling practices change. The date at the top of this page will be updated when the policy changes.
